Veteran for Life:
Troy C. Wallace
U.S. Army
1987-1991 (enlisted) 2000-2016 (officer)
Judge Advocate
My career focused on helping Soldiers and their families, enabling commanders to perform their missions within the boundaries of the law and promoting good order and justice in the service.
I served during the Cold War era at Fort Hood, Texas, and in Korea. After completing my enlistment, I used the GI Bill to attend college and law school. I returned to the Army as a JAG in 2000 and served in a variety of positions in CONUS and OCONUS, including deploying to Operation Iraqi Freedom.
During my career as a JAG, I represented hundreds of Soldiers and family members and assisted them with legal issues. I advised staff officers and commanders at all levels, including company, battalion, brigade and corps, on cases and issues involving administrative law, criminal law, operational law, international law, fiscal law and contracts.
The highlights of my career included serving as a prosecutor for nearly five years, advising commanders in combat on sometimes novel, and often challenging, issues, representing victims of sexual assault and prosecuting the special case of a Soldier who deserted his unit in 1965 and defected to North Korea until his release and subsequent court-martial in 2004.
