In Puerto Rico, Exchange Passion for Serving Those Who Serve Prevails
It has been five months since Hurricane Maria ravaged Puerto Rico. Since then, Exchange associates on the island have exuded extreme passion and dedication for service members all while dealing with personal hardships as the island recovers. In February, I was honored to join associates at Fort Buchanan and Camp Santiago to celebrate their selfless service to Soldiers, first responders and families after the catastrophic storm.
When Maria roared through in September, our teammates bore the brunt of the storm. Some had their homes destroyed. Others are still without running water or electricity. Yet these associates still come to work each day, ready to serve the best customers in the world.
These dedicated associates define the Exchange’s core value of family serving family, they are all in for service members and their families.
The Puerto Rico team is close—like family. The team shares a special bond, one of the strongest I have seen. They look out for, lean on and encourage one another. They also celebrate together—seeing them hug and cheer for each other during my visit was truly heartwarming.
The Puerto Rico Exchange’s love for our Warfighters is inspiring. Though Maria devastated the island, our team’s hope and resiliency have not wavered. These dedicated associates define the Exchange’s core value of family serving family, they are all in for service members and their families. The team is truly a reflection of our mission to take care of all those who wear our nation’s uniform.
Each of our teammates in Puerto Rico is further proof our people are the heart and soul of the benefit we are honored to provide those who raise their right hand, take the oath and do their part to make a difference.
Maria has not, will not and cannot wash away the Exchange Puerto Rico team’s unwavering commitment to serve those who serve. With their help, Puerto Rico will rise. Puerto Rico se levanta!
