MILITARY STAR Acceptance at Commissaries Helps Soldier Win Big
The Exchange Credit Program paid off the MILITARY STAR® card account of a Fort Lee Soldier as part of its Your Holiday Bill Is On Us Sweepstakes. For the sweepstakes’ fourth year, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service collaborated with the Navy Exchange, Marine Corps Exchange, Coast Guard Exchange and the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) to sponsor the sweepstakes, and extend participation to MILITARY STAR cardholders shopping at their facilities.
1st Lt. Blake Jones, a logistics student, was one of five grand-prize winners out of more than 6 million entries worldwide to have his MILITARY STAR card bill paid in full. During a presentation at the Fort Lee Commissary, Jones took scissors to an oversize MILITARY STAR statement, symbolizing his $5,200 bill being wiped clean.
Commissaries began accepting the MILITARY STAR card in the fall. Jones is DeCA’s first winner in the sweepstakes.
It’s great to see a real hero win, and we’re happy to help his family and ease some of their worries.
“We are privileged to honor 1st Lt. Jones by paying his account in full,” said Exchange Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Jim Jordan. “It’s great to see a real hero win, and we’re happy to help his family and ease some of their worries.”
During November and December, shoppers are automatically entered in the Your Holiday Bill Is On Us sweepstakes each time they used their MILITARY STAR card to pay for purchases at any military exchange location, on ShopMyExchange.com or MyNavyExchange.com, or at the commissary. Encourage customers to always use MILITARY STAR and remind them they can use the card for their commissary purchases.
See the video of the ceremony from the Exchange Facebook page.
