More than 30 Exchange associates and their allies joined with the Human Rights Campaign and employees of major Dallas-area companies to participate Sept. 16 in the city’s 35th annual Alan Ross PRIDE parade.

“We want to show unity with the LGBT community who contribute so much to the city, country and the Exchange, and our allies,” said Scott Lohmann, the Exchange’s senior marketing manager. “A diverse city like Dallas is a great place to live and fosters inclusivity in all kinds of events and in the workplaces.”

Also participating in the parade was EVP and Chief Financial Officer Jim Jordan, an “executive champion” of the Exchange’s PRIDE special emphasis program, which presents opportunities for all associates to support gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality at work and in the military communities served by the organization.

“PRIDE presents opportunities for all associates to support gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality at work and in the military communities we serve,” said Dr. Patrick Oldenburgh, Vice President of HR Operations. “I am happy that so many people took part in the parade, especially those allies who support us in the drive for inclusion.

“Our go-forward plans are to support world-wide LGBT PRIDE events from HQ because a recent survey we sent out got most interest from the field.”

National LGBT Pride Month occurs in June, but Dallas celebrates in September to commemorate a court ruling that struck down an anti-gay law in Texas.

The parade included employees from American Airlines, Microsoft, Northrup Grumman, Pepsi, Raytheon, Southern Methodist University, Starbucks, Target and other major companies. More than 2,000 people participated in the 2017 PRIDE parade in Dallas.

I am a retiree & as I read the PRIDE story it reminded me of how AAFES always made me proud of our all inclusive atmosphere long before other companies. Kudos for continuing the tradition.

      Ms. Vaughan:

Thank you so much for writing to your Exchange Post. I will pass your comments along to the people here at AAFES who lead the participation.
