At Grafenwoehr, Exchange Opens First Sports Nutrition Shop in Europe
The Exchange opened its first Europe sports nutrition shop Sept. 21 inside the Tower Barracks Exchange at U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria at Grafenwoehr.
The shop offers Warfighters everything they need to support active lifestyles including features pre- and post-workout supplements, sports drinks, vitamins and high-protein snacks all in one place.
“This is what our communities want, and we’re delivering in a big way,” said Jason Rosenberg, senior vice president of the Europe/SW Asia Region. “Our assortment rivals any sports nutrition shop you would see in America. Our Soldiers and Airmen stationed overseas deserve nothing less.”
Readiness: number one priority
The Exchange chose Grafenwoehr for the first location of a sports nutrition shop because of the large number of young troops deployed to the installation who want to be fit, he added.
COL Scott McFarland, commander of the Exchange’s Europe/SW Asia Region, said opening the shop is all about readiness.
“In the Army, readiness is the number one priority,” he said. “Readiness of your own body impacts every other area of readiness.”
Sandwiches and smoothies
Customers who attended the grand opening were greeted by associates, who helped answer questions. Subway provided samples of healthy-choice sandwiches, Bun’D associates handed out coupons for their healthy smoothies, and commissary employees staffed a table where they told customers about healthy eating.
COL McFarland and Rosenberg joined Brig. Gen. Christopher LaNeve, commander of the 7th ATC; and other military leaders in cutting the ribbon to open the store. COL Adam Boyd, commander of USAG Bavaria, also attended the ceremonies.
