Late last year, the Exchange Credit Program launched a mobile app for MILITARY STAR shoppers, and the reviews are in:

“Fantastic!” wrote one user on the MILITARY STAR Mobile App page on the Apple App Store. “I have been waiting for such an app. Works like a charm.”

In the first few months of the app’s availability, customers downloaded it 74,000 times.

Cardholders in 20 countries have logged in 390,100 times—an average of one login every 20 seconds.

Convenient payments

One of the primary uses of the app is setting up convenient payments: More than 32,000 payments have been set up so far.

While ECP is already planning upgrades and improvements for the app, getting the app off the ground was a main goal.

“This app is something we’ve been working on for our customers for a long time,” said Vice President of Credit Operations Tommy Ward. “More and more, people are operating solely from their phones. Having a MILITARY STAR app adds convenience for cardholders, while keeping us in-line with the broader industry.”

The MILITARY STAR Mobile App is available for iPhones and an Android version is scheduled for release within a few months.

Keeping info secure

Besides making payments faster and easier, users can view account information, including all transactions and past billing statements, and receive push notifications.

Biometric security features ensure all account information stays secure. Those features, along with a security-first development approach, made it possible for the app to receive an “A” rating from security experts Foundstone/McAfee, designating a highly secure application. These same development approaches are also used in other Exchange applications to ensure that information security is always a top priority.

Tracking rewards points

MILITARY STAR Mobile App users can track rewards points and see how close they are to their next $20 rewards card arriving in the mail and can check out exclusive savings and discounts as well.

The free app has an average rating of 4.3 stars out of 5. Cardholders have noted its simplicity and convenience, with one reviewer calling the MILITARY STAR Mobile App “simple, easy to use and necessary for mobile banking.”

Dec. 6, 1985

The day military exchanges get congressional approval to begin accepting credit cards. Check out this photo of one of the first credit-card transactions for the Army & Air Force Exchange Service. The photo is in the searchable, downloadable Exchange History Flickr album, which features 700 pictures, some dating to the Civil War. The MILITARY STAR card, as we know it today, didn’t come along until 2000.
