Two Logistics Directorate associates were recognized recently for participating in U.S. Transportation Command’s (USTRANSCOM) research on installing new technology that will lead to more cost effective and quicker ways to move military equipment around the world.

Mary Lanier, HQ international manager; and Marivel Ambegia, manager, Hawaii Distribution Center;  received certificates last month from Andy Dawson, USTRANSCOM’S senior supply chain IT project manager, for lending their expertise.  Jennifer Colon, a former associate at the Hawaii DC, also received a certificate.

“USTRANSCOM is implementing an integrated, global, multi-model transportation management system to project the might of the U.S. military and sustain the force around the world,” Lanier said. “The Exchange continues to be a critical partner, engaged from the beginning, in helping to develop processes, business rules and contracting requirements associated with the new transportation management system.”

“Our team has been tasked to contribute our skills, insights and knowledge of Exchange transportation processes to USTRANSCOM’s effort based on our own processes.”

Lanier and her team are using their experiences gleaned from the Logistics Directorate implementing its own technology to streamline its distribution centers around the world. USTRANSCOM is set to flip the switch on its management system May 1.

Earlier this year, Lanier’s team and USTRANSCOM leaders toured the Hawaii DC, where the Exchange shipped nearly 1,400 containers in 2018. While in Hawaii, the group visited the main store at Schofield Barracks and learned about the flow of merchandise from the West Coast Distribution Center in California to the islands and around the world.

“Our team has been tasked to contribute our skills, insights and knowledge of Exchange transportation processes to USTRANSCOM’s effort based on our own processes,” Lanier said.
