40,000 and Growing: Patrick AFB Associate a Milestone Hire for the Exchange

On the road to the Exchange’s goal of hiring 50,000 military spouses and Veterans by 2020, Katherin Zimmerman represents an important milestone.

The Patrick Air Force Base Express customer experience associate is the 40,000th military spouse or Veteran hired by the Exchange since 2013. Zimmerman is a military spouse whose husband, Staff Sgt. Caleb Zimmerman, is assigned to the Florida installation.

“The Exchange feels like family,” said Zimmerman, who was hired this summer. “We’re a small store, so we see the same people every day. We ask how each other’s kids are doing and how their vacation was. That’s the best part: feeling like family.”

Zimmerman’s best friend let her know that the Exchange was hiring, but Zimmerman was already familiar with military exchanges—several years ago, she briefly worked for the Marine Corps Exchange at California’s Camp Pendleton before she had to leave to care for a family member.

“The Exchange is grateful to have dedicated military spouses like Katherin taking care of our shoppers,” said Leigh Roop, Exchange Executive Vice President and Chief HR Officer. “Her passion and service are prime examples of why the Exchange is always seeking to recruit military spouses and Veterans.”

Though just a few months into her job at the Express, Zimmerman is all in for taking care of her customers.

“My goal is to have everybody leave with a smile on their face,” she said.
