After 15 years, the Vicenza Exchange is getting renovated throughout.

The Exchange’s main store at the U.S. Army Garrison in Vicenza, Italy, is undergoing a $10 million renovation, which started this month and is the first major project there in about 15 years.

The Exchange’s presence at the Caserma Ederle military complex in Vicenza began in 1965. The store underwent a renovation in 1996 and then again in 2004/2005.

“The renovated store will be a new start for Vicenza,” said Italy Consolidated General Manager Jennifer Jordan. “The Exchange will feature the latest in merchandising, visual appeal and a newly aligned merchandise flow that should make shopping easier. We will maximize the top performing categories and feature them prominently throughout the newly designed space.”

Some merchandise areas have been moved to other parts of the store to accommodate the construction.

Inside the store, upgrades include new floor coverings, lights, ceiling tiles and fixtures. Workers will install modern, cost-efficient coolers, freezers, heating and air-conditioning systems and data and communications equipment.

The most dramatic changes will come in the food court, which will undergo a complete reconfiguration to improve the customer experience and operational efficiencies.  The area will include more seats and new Bun-D and Dunkin Donuts.

Construction is expected to last into the fall of 2020.

“Every single building will be touched in one way or another with this renovation,” said Main Store Manager Cindy Brown.  “We are excited to bring a better shopping and dining experience for our Warfighters and their families. Not only do image upgrades impact our customers, but they also renew a sense of pride in our associates as they enjoy coming to work in a new, fresh environment.”
