Wall of Heroes Brings Family Serving Family to Life

Exchange headquarters associates are taking family serving family to heart this month through the Wall of Heroes. The tribute which commemorates Warfighters past and present who are close to Exchange associate’s hearts.

This year’s tribute honors 20 military heroes and includes photos and their stories of service and sacrifice. The display is an annual tribute that showcases associates’ love for their family members and demonstrates the Exchange’s core value of family serving family.

Across the organization, 85% of associates have a connection to the military, and 22% are military spouses.

Merchandising Assistant Elizabeth Salinas is proud of husband Jaime’s service and considers him her hero every day.

Jaime served in the Army from 1991 to 1995 and in the National Guard from 2005 to 2008. He has been on the Exchange’s contracted security team for more than 10 years.

“He is the hero in my life for many reasons, but his service to our country makes me the most proud,” Elizabeth said.

The couple met at headquarters three years ago and married in July of 2018.

Pedro and Mary Ann Garcia

Similarly, HR Career Systems Specialist Pedro Garcia nominated his wife, Mary Ann, for the Wall of Heroes. Mary Ann served in the Air Force from 1986 to 1992. She’s worked for the Exchange for 16 years and serves as an Administrative Technician.

“It takes strength to join the military and I’m proud of my wife for making the decision to serve so many years ago,” Garcia said. “She’s a proud Air Force Veteran and comes from an Air Force family.”
