One winner from each military branch took home $5,000 in the Home for the Holidays Sweepstakes

The MILITARY STAR® card has spread cheer to five military shoppers this holiday season with $25,000 in cash prizes.

One winner each from the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard received $5,000 to help with last-minute holiday gifts, travel and other purchases as part of the MILITARY STAR card’s Home for the Holidays Sweepstakes.

Army Veteran Jean Summers, whose husband is also an Army retiree, was the Army winner and received her prize in a special presentation at the Fort Stewart, Ga., Exchange, Dec. 19.

“We love the MILITARY STAR card,” said Summers, who plans to use the prize money for a Tokyo trip in 2020. “We use it on base and it gives us points and rewards. This was like a double reward. We already get points, and now I get a big check—that’s amazing. I want to thank the Exchange for making this happen.”

Service members and families who shopped any military exchange and commissary with their MILITARY STAR card during the sweepstakes period were automatically entered into the drawing.

Other winners are:

  • Air Force Maj. Matthew Daniels, Dyess AFB, Texas
  • Navy Seaman Recruit Samuel Alexander, Los Angeles AFB
  • Marine Corps Sgt. Kevin Dayao, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii
  • Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer 2 Harold Deibler, JB Langley-Eustis

“It’s an honor to give these gifts to military families to help manage the high cost of the holidays and travel plans during this time of the year,” said Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Luis Reyes, the Exchange’s senior enlisted advisor. “We hope the cash prizes help make the holidays stress-free for these winners.”
