During the COVID-19 pandemic, Exchanges around the world are encouraging associates and customers to practice social distancing by staying 6 feet away from each other.
“In addition to the Exchange following recommended practices for providing a safe working and shopping environment, our leadership, compassion and kindness are the keys to supporting our teammates and the best customers in the world,” said Chief Operating Officer Dave Nelson.
To encourage social distancing, the Exchange is:
- Placing signs throughout stores urging customers to stay 6 feet apart. Some stores are using decal footprints—6 feet apart—on floors.
- Having most restaurants to serve only take-out meals.
- Removing tables and chairs in the food courts if restaurants are take-out only. Some restaurants are stacking chairs and tables in the food courts and roping off the areas.
- Closing several concessions, such as barber shops, beauty shops, nail salons, spas and optical/optometry centers. Most barber shops were closed by the concessionaires or shut under directives from installation commanders.
- Closing all Reel Time movie theaters in CONUS and Europe.
“We will get through this together,” Nelson said, “despite being 6 feet apart for the time being.”
