COVID-19 Heroes: MFE Supports Soldiers at Fort Benning

A mobile field exchange (MFE) has deployed to Fort Benning to support more than 500 Soldiers who recently completed basic training. Because of COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions, these new recruits are unable to continue to their next assignment.

“The MFE is a lifeline for these Soldiers, who are being housed in a remote area on the installation until they can move to their next assignment,” said Tamala McCoy, store manager at the Fort Benning Exchange, who is helping run the MFE. “This is an example of how the Exchange leans forward to support service members and their families, wherever they are serving.”

Seven associates from Fort Benning are staffing the MFE, including McCoy, sales and merchandise manager Sandra Bryant, store associates Robyn Opacki, Beverly Dalton and Christina Daniels, and warehouse foremen Adam Harper and Martin Pruner.

Lt. Sarah Schreck, Alpha Company Commander, appreciates the hard work in bringing the MFE to the Soldiers.

“Alpha Company coordinated with the Benning Exchange to arrange for the MFE as well as pre-packaged comfort items to support the troops in holdover status,” Schreck said. “Thank you to the Exchange team for their support during this pandemic.”
