“Two thumbs up,” said Germersheim Fleet Long Distance Driver Michael Seidemann. “I appreciate that the fleet supervisors always put the drivers’ safety first.

As the Exchange continues to provide mission-essential goods and services, it’s protecting frontline associates, including the invaluable truck drivers who ensure military communities get what they need throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Europe region truck drivers have already been issued protective gear such as an N95 mask, gloves, a personal thermometer, hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes, but fleet managers are continually assessing needs and looking for additional ways to keep associates safe.

By the end of April, they added disposable seat covers, steering wheel covers and floor mats for increased safety. Drivers will be issued goggles soon too.

“As the situation with the pandemic continues throughout the region, it’s important we don’t just stay satisfied with what we’ve already done to protect our workforce,” said Europe Regional Fleet Manager Ronald Willis. “We owe it to our incredible drivers to keep looking for new and creative ways to prioritize their well-being.”

Drivers have also been equipped with emergency rations in case of long delays at borders, and their first-aid kits are fully stocked before they make their deliveries.

The efforts are noticed by the drivers.

“Two thumbs up,” said Germersheim Fleet Long Distance Driver Michael Seidemann. “I appreciate that the fleet supervisors always put the drivers’ safety first.”
