Retiree Association Awards $40,000 in College Scholarships
Twelve sons and daughters of Exchange associates have won $40,000 in college scholarships from the Exchange Retired Employees Association.
Katy Leipheimer, daughter of Kimberly Leipheimer, recruiting manager at Fort Campbell, Ky., received one of the two top AREA scholarship of $5,000. She will enter Vanderbilt University this fall to study political science.
The other top winner, Allison Gutierrez, daughter of Annitta Gutierrez, a materials handler at Eglin AFB, Fla., will use her $5,000 scholarship to study business management and marketing at William Carey University.
Since the scholarship program began in 1985, AREA has awarded $867,000 to nearly 400 students.
Ten students won $3,000 scholarships:
Kabryni Bruening—daughter of Lt. Col. Garrett Bruening, the Europe Region’s general counsel. An associate at the Vogelweh Burger King, she will study pre-physical therapy at Central Michigan University.
Joyce Chung—daughter of Kristie Chung, cosmetics associate at Fort Meade. She will study economics at the University of Maryland.
Sarah Hendartono—daughter of Andrini Hendartono, HQ customer insight manager. She will study journalism at the University of Southern California.
Hana Kimmey—daughter of Minako Kimmey, a Western Region HR manager based at Fort Carson. She will major in biology at the University of Mary Washington.
Patrick Landry—son of John Landry, an Exchange attorney at HQ. He will attend Texas A&M University to study electrical engineering.
Louise Malaluan—daughter of Bernadeth Proctor, supervisor at the Kirtland AFB. A cashier at the Kirtland main store, she will pursue a medical science degree at the University of New Mexico.
Chace Moncrief—son of Rhonda Moncrief, HR manager at HQ. He will study biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame.
Ike Onyekwere—son of Damian Onyekwere, HQ systems program analyst. He plans to major in chemistry at Baylor University.
Calla Robison—daughter of Maria Robison, an HQ data analyst. Robison will study computer science and cyber security at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Elizabeth Schreiner—daughter of Karen Schreiner, manager of the Hector Field Exchange in Fargo, N.D. She will study dental hygiene at North Dakota State.
