KMCC Exchange Hosts a Drive-By Celebration to Honor the Class of 2020

KMCC Exchange associates honored 2020 high school graduates from Kaiserslautern and Ramstein High Schools in Germany during COVID-19 by hosting a drive-by celebration event, in which they handed out small gifts of leis.

For roughly 400 senior graduates from Kaiserslautern and Ramstein High Schools in Germany, life goes on under quarantine. To honor the 2020 high school graduates during COVID-19, Army & Air Force Exchange Service hosted a drive-by celebration event, handing out small gifts of leis.

“They didn’t get to walk onto a stage for their diplomas like those before them,” said Lani Chandler, the services business manager with KMCC Exchange. “We wanted to do something special to highlight what is a milestone in life for these seniors.”

Vehicles were lined up to receive the small tokens of appreciation. Chandler said the high school graduates and their parents were very pleased with gesture.

“We even had customers coming up to us wanting to donate for the cause,” Chandler said.

The leis contained small samples, sweets and gift cards donated by the various vendors found in the KMCC Exchange. Chandler and her team handed out more than 100 leis during the two-hour event.

“We are all experiencing the stresses of living during this pandemic— it’s been tough, but we want our military and their families to know that we are here for them,” said Col. Scott McFarland, Exchange Europe/Southwest Asia Region commander. “This is another great example of how our Exchange teams go above and beyond, and emulate our core value of family serving family.”
