Spangdahlem Airmen and families patiently stood in line waiting for the much-anticipated grand opening of the Army & Air Force Exchange Service’s Bun-D, which offers better-for-you choices.

Deputy Commander Lt. Col. Charles Goad, 52nd Mission Support Group, joined Spangdahlem Exchange Service Business Manager Christa Rodriguez in cutting the ribbon during the grand opening at the Exchange food court.

“This is a great way to get back to normal,” Goad said. “We are happy to work with our community partners during this pandemic and look forward to our continued partnership.”

Rodriguez worked with Bun-D to make sure the grand opening happened despite challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Spangdahlem Exchange Bun-D is the 17th to open overseas, including locations in Iraq.

The Spangdahlem Saber community can now enjoy Bun-D’s natural, unprocessed ingredients offered in its salads, wraps, rice bowls, and smoothies. On its grand-opening day, Bun-D served more than 280 Warfighters and their families.

“The Spangdahlem Exchange is happy to bring another better-for-you option to the Spangdahlem Saber community,” Spangdahlem General Manager Lori Maggard said. “Bun-D joins Subway and Charley’s in offering meals that support the Air Force Smart Fueling initiative.”

The Spangdahlem Exchange Bun-D is at 570 Flugplatz and is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
