The Exchange at 125: The Exchange in Vietnam
July 23, 2020 |
In 1965, the Army & Air Force Exchange Service took over a handful of PXs from the Navy in Vietnam the day after Christmas.
At the height of the war in the late 1960s, the Exchange served American Warfighters with 50 major stores, 1,800 concessions and 180 food facilities, from cafeterias to snack wagons. On April 30, 1975, the last associates were evacuated from Vietnam via Marine helicopters just before the fall of Saigon.
In 2013, the Exchange became a 50th Anniversary Vietnam War Commemorative Partner. The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration honors Vietnam Veterans who never got the proper welcome home they deserved.
