Exchange shoppers can donate to AER and AFAF year-roundExchange shoppers are already making a difference for military members in need in the first month of a new donation option in stores.

In June, the Store Operations team began rolling out an option for shoppers to donate to Army Emergency Relief (AER) or the Air Force Assistance Fund (AFAF) year-round from the register PIN pads at Exchange stores. The launch was implemented in geographical phases and netted nearly $150,000 in in-store donations for June.

“We’re thrilled with the generosity of our shoppers. The donations have exceeded our expectations, especially since the giving option was only live at four of the five regions in June and not even for the full month at most stores,” said Exchange President and Chief Merchandising Officer Ana Middleton. “We’re looking forward to how much we can help Soldiers and Airmen by having this option.”

Shoppers can donate in increments of $1, $5 and $10 or can enter in a custom amount. Online donations can be made in $5 increments during checkout at ShopMyExchange.com. Since 2017, Exchange shoppers have been able to donate to AER and AFAF at the register, but only during select giving periods throughout the year.

AER and AFAF provide emergency assistance, sponsor educational programs and offer community programs that make life better for service members and their families.

“With the upheaval of the pandemic, there are a lot of Soldiers, Airmen and military families who need a little extra help right now,” Middleton said. “By supporting AER and the AFAF, Exchange shoppers are helping our heroes through tough times.”

The year-round giving and custom amount options will help sustain support for service members and families throughout the year.
