Exchanges Prepared as Storms Approach Landfall

The Exchange built emergency inventory at its distribution centers and stores on the East Coast and Gulf Coast well before storm season.

As Tropical Storm Marco and Hurricane Laura continue tracking toward the U.S. through the Gulf of Mexico, the Exchange is ensuring those in the storms’ path are prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws its way.

From generators to fuel to pallets of water, Exchange teams from all across the enterprise are working together to take care of military communities.

“The Exchange is all in to assist our teams in the path of these storms,” said Exchange Central Region SVP Jesse Martinez “By planning far in advance, we can ensure Warfighters and their families have the necessary supplies to weather the storm.”

The Exchange built emergency inventory at its distribution centers and stores on the East Coast and Gulf Coast well before storm season so Fort Polk, Ellington Field and Barksdale and Keesler AFBs were ready to go ahead of Laura.  As was the case with Hurricane Isaias this summer, preparations before hurricane season to build emergency inventory at installations and distribution centers resulted in Exchanges at Fort Bragg and MacDill, Charleston and Seymour Johnson AFBs having supplies.

Emergency supplies such as pallets of water, gas cans, batteries, generators and hygiene supplies, among other items, have been distributed to Keesler AFB and Ellington Field.

Puerto Rico, which took a direct hit from Tropical Storm Laura over the weekend, experienced strong winds and heavy rain. No Exchange stores were affected, and all are operating with normal business hours.
