125 Years of Family Serving Family – Anthony Kirk Ramos, HQ
One in a series honoring the Exchange’s 125 years of family serving family
The U.S. welcomed Anthony “Kirk” Ramos’ grandfather into the country, giving him special immigration status after working for the Exchange as a dairy operations supervisor and playing a major part in stopping thefts at Clark Air Base in the Philippines.
Years later, Ramos thanked the Department of Defense retailer by starting his own Exchange career.
“The whole family was excited to hear I was hired to working at the Exchange because of the opportunities it was able to open up for them,” he said. “So, for that, I’ll always be grateful.”
Ramos, an auditor at headquarters in Dallas, started with the Exchange in 2015. His grandfather, Rustico Ramos, moved from Clark to Dallas in 1986, working at headquarters managing inventory for the Fashion Distribution Center. He later moved into a clerical position.
“He was given special immigration status to move to the U.S. along with his family, which includes my dad and my uncles, who went on to serve in the military,” Kirk Ramos said. “At Clark, after reporting to his supervisor that thefts were occurring on the trucks, he was threatened by the individuals to turn a blind eye to them.”
Rustico Ramos’ actions earned him a new home in U.S.
“I often say that the Exchange is half the reason I’m here,” Kirk Ramos said.
His job as an auditor has exposed him to several directorates, which has furthered his knowledge of Exchange operations, he said.
“Through it all, I’ve always appreciated the hard work and dedication everyone puts in to support our mission,” Kirk Ramos said. “Whether it’s our associates from the stores, restaurants, distribution centers or headquarters, everyone works hard to make it all happen for our Soldiers and Airmen.”
