An Anniversary to Remember ‘For the Rest of Our Lives’: Kadena Family Wins $10,000 Exchange Shopping Spree
Shauna Federico and her husband, Jason, celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary family style by playing golf at Banyan Tree Golf Course on Kadena Air Base with their son Bryce, 12.
They stopped at Subway located in the Kadena Air Base Olympic mini-mall to get a bite to eat before teeing off.
She received a welcome anniversary surprise: a $10,000 Exchange shopping spree.
“I am not usually a lucky person, so when I saw the ticket, I was utterly shocked. I must have read the ticket ten times thinking that I misread it,” Shauna said. “Then, I had my husband and son read it to confirm it. And, although it is now official, it still feels surreal.”
The Subway Sip. Rip. Ultimate Trip sweepstakes is in honor of the Exchange’s 125th anniversary.
Shauna, a teacher for the Department of Defense Education Activity, remains grounded as she thinks of her family first and how to maximize the shopping spree.
“I will probably buy something very special for Bryce,” Federico said. “He is a pretty incredible kid, but I want him to understand that this is a tremendous gift this is for us.”
With the rest of the prize, Federico plans to remain level-headed as she foresees buying new furniture like dressers and mattress and replacing dishes and cookware.
“We are going to replace our old wedding dishes with our anniversary winnings,” Federico said. “It has been a great and memorable anniversary, one we will remember for the rest of our lives.”
On Aug. 29, Federico and her husband met with another $10,000 Exchange shopping spree winner Master Sgt. Jacob Hayes, communications chief for 3rd Supply Battalion and his wife, Jessica to finish their winning transaction before the store’s opening.
Weeks leading up to their shopping spree, both winners sent Kadena Exchange managers a list of their purchases and the Exchange team gathered all of their items to save them time and effort.
“We are so happy that we could do this for them,” Kadena Exchange Main Store Manager Flor Payton said. “We always try to make shopping as easy as possible for all of our Exchange customers.”
