U.S. Veterans Magazine Names Exchange Among the ‘Best of the Best’ for 8th Consecutive Year
The Army & Air Force Exchange Service has been recognized by U.S. Veterans Magazine on its 2021 “Best of the Best” list. It is the eighth consecutive year the publication has so honored the Exchange for “championing Veteran initiatives.”
“Veterans—both our shoppers and associates—are a key reason for the Exchange’s success in carrying out its mission of serving those who serve and have served,” said Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Kevin Osby, the Exchange’s senior enlisted advisor.
The award comes as the Exchange has hired its 49,000th Veteran or military spouse since 2013, closing in on its goal to hire 50,000 Veterans and military spouses. Veterans make up about 10% of the Exchange’s U.S. workforce, and more than 1,700 Wounded Warriors have been hired since 2010.
“The Exchange puts special focus on recruiting and hiring Veterans,” Osby said. “They’re natural fits at the Exchange because of their commitment to serving the military community.”
The Exchange seeks out Veterans through its Veterans Retail Management Training program, job fairs and other outreach events. The Exchange also gives hiring preference to honorably discharged Veterans, disabled Veterans and military retirees below the rank of major or its equivalent.
The Exchange made the U.S. Veterans Magazine list in the category of “Top Government and Law Enforcement Agencies.”
