DeCA Director Visits Exchange, Strengthening Partnership
SEMBACH, Germany ‒ The Exchange’s Germersheim Distribution Center (GEDC) and Gruenstadt bakery hosted a visit for the new Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) Director and Chief Executive Officer William Moore on July 27 and 30.
At Germersheim, the Exchange joins the Defense Logistics Agency and DeCA, enabling the agencies to collaborate efficiently to provide the military and their families with better services.
“Our partnership with the Exchange is very important,” Moore said. “We provide a valuable service to our military and their families and we want to make sure we keep providing better, cost-effective and faster services.”
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Moore’s visit to the Exchange facilities was his first overseas trip since assuming his position nearly a year ago.
“The partnership is critical,” Moore said. “I’m encouraged to see the teamwork between our agencies and look forward to keep building on it.”
In 2020, the Gruenstadt bakery produced 3.1 million pounds of baked goods for Exchange stores, schools, commissaries and restaurants. The bakery and GEDC work closely with several business-to-business clients including the U.S. Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation; the U.S. Air Force Services; the Navy Exchange; and the U.S. Embassy.
“The Exchange is committed to providing the best goods and services to our military,” said Col. Don Nowlin, commander for Exchange’s Europe/Southwest Asia Region. “We will continue to build our partnership with DeCA to make sure our military and their families are taken care of.”
