On the Road Again … Exchange BE FIT Joins Army Strong B.A.N.D.S. Tour

BE FIT 360 - MWR TOUR DATES

BE FIT Ambassador Roy Montez is teaming up with the U.S. Army Installation Management Command’s Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation’s Strong B.A.N.D.S. program with a common goal to empower the military community and keep Soldiers ready and resilient.

Exchange BE FIT Ambassador Roy Montez with Brig. Gen. Anthony McQueen, Fort Detrick commanding general, and Command Sgt. Maj. Victor Laragione of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command. Montez and the Fort Detrick and Fort Meade Exchanges staffed a booth at Fort Detrick’s Health and Wellness Expo on May 12.

In the coming weeks, Montez will visit multiple Army installations to communicate the BE FIT initiative to military communities.

Strong B.A.N.D.S. (Balance, Activity, Nutrition, Determination and Strength), in its 10th year, promotes healthy and active lifestyles for Army communities and helps motivate Soldiers, families, retirees and civilians to get and stay fit.

Montez’s first stop on the tour was Fort Detrick’s Health and Wellness Expo on May 12. Montez and the Fort Detrick and Fort Meade Exchanges staffed a booth alongside more than 20 other health and wellness vendors to communicate Exchange relevancy messaging to U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command leaders, service members and families who attended the event.

“These events help the Exchange educate Soldiers and families on our resources and products while building relationships with our shoppers and command leadership,” Montez said.

Montez led a 30-minute workout with Fort Detrick Express Store Manager Prelyn Pavlovic and the Fort Detrick MWR team. The live workout can be seen here.

Fort Meade Store Manager Dawn Holland, Pavlovic and Visual Merchandiser Chris Jonczak provided the signing, banners and brochures for the booth.

“Army leaders are looking for additional support to make a cultural change, including providing healthier options for Soldiers,” Montez said. “Command leadership understands the BE FIT initiative much more after speaking with them and they know the Exchange is there to support their goals.”

Montez will also visit Fort Campbell on May 31 and Fort McCoy on June 4 to represent the Exchange at the Campbell Memorial Challenge and Fort McCoy’s weightlifting competition.

Fort Campbell and Fort McCoy’s Exchange store leadership will participate in the events for added brand awareness and support. Montez will also go live again on Facebook at upcoming events to drive engagement and share the Exchange’s relevancy messaging.

This is the Exchange’s first official BE FIT tour. Montez has also worked out with Soldiers at Fort Hood and Fort Leonard Wood.
