Exchange Associate Spins His Wheel for Kids Cancer Research

While working as Loss Prevention Manager at the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Exchange, Jon Bogachoff rode his unicycle each day, trekking around the area. After moving to Fayetteville, N.C., in 2020 and becoming the Eastern Region’s Loss Prevention investigator, he found a compelling reason to continue his routine: children’s cancer research.

Bogachoff taught himself to ride a unicycle at 13 and, after taking a hiatus from the hobby, picked it back up when the pandemic started. He graduated to a 36” unicycle and logs his miles daily as part of the Great Cycle Challenge, which consists of a group of cyclists who ride bicycles and unicycles to garner donations to fight cancer. He is one of thousands of riders worldwide who contribute to the cause every year and one of 10 unicyclists involved in the challenge.

“I saw someone who was participating in it and thought I might as well ride for something worthwhile,” he said. “Hopefully it can be beneficial.”

As part of the challenge, riders collect donations virtually for the Children’s Cancer Research Fund while trekking toward their mileage goal to raise awareness and support toward the cause. This year, Bogachoff logged more than 2,500 miles.
