The Exchange celebrated the grand opening of Einstein Bros. Bagels on Jan. 5 at the Olympic Mall food court at Kadena Air Base with an official ribbon- and cake-cutting ceremony.

Einstein Bros. Bagels offers the Kadena military community a taste of home. It’s the brand’s fifth Exchange location in the Pacific and joins Bun-D and Pizza Hut in the food court.

“The Exchange is committed to bringing service members and families more dining choices,” said Exchange Pacific Region Commander Air Force Col. Jason L. Beck.

Husband and wife SSgts. Jake and Kelsy Peacher, both assigned to 18th Ammunition Squadron, took a 10-minute drive during their lunch break to try Einstein Bros. Bagels for the first time. Jake, missile inspector, ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito while Kelsy, unit deployment manager, ordered a bacon & cheddar breakfast egg sandwich on an everything bagel.

“I was really excited when I heard that the Exchange was bringing in a bagel shop,” Kelsy Peacher said. “I love bagels; and trying out new restaurants is always fun and exciting.”

The grand opening on Kadena AB extends the Einstein Bros. Bagel footprint within the region. Additional stores are located on Misawa Air Base and Yokota Air Base in mainland Japan and Marine Camps Foster and Hansen on Okinawa.
