AAPEX Releases Travel Guide and Teams Background for AAPI Heritage Month

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (1)

Exchange associates can celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month during May in a creative and adventurous way with the Exchange’s special emphasis group AAFES Asian/Pacific Exchange (AAPEX.)

The AAPEX group has published its second travel guide, encouraging associates to celebrate the month with a special road trip.

“Our executive champion, Pacific Region Senior Vice President Jesus Martinez, sparked the idea when he mentioned the hidden places where we should travel to connect and visit the historical sites,” said AAPEX Program Manager Antra Pande. “The heritage sites give insight into the history of Asian American and Pacific Islanders.”

The Asian American Pacific Islander Memorial and Heritage Sites Guide includes background on the importance of celebrating the awareness month and gives a list of historical sites to visit nationwide, including the Honouliuli National Historic Site in Oahu, Hawaii, and the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience in Seattle.

“Antra and I did a lot of research to curate the guide, and we found links to virtual tours to educate associates on the culture,” said AAPEX Program Manager Tonya Jones. “AAPEX would love to see our associates participate in any way that they can.”

Associates can celebrate the month from their home or office with a free downloadable AAPEX background to use during Microsoft Teams calls and meetings. The art is available on AAPEX’s portal and remain accessible year-round, giving associates a chance to show their support virtually any time.

As one of the Exchange’s eight Equal Employment Opportunity Diversity and Inclusion special emphasis programs, AAPEX’s mission is to enhance awareness of Asian Pacific culture, promote professional development and ensure that the Exchange is the employer of choice for Asian and Pacific Island Americans. Martinez, Pacific Region senior vice president, and Tom Ockenfels, vice president of administration, are executive champions for the group.
