Installation Renamings: Fort Liberty
After more than 100 years under its old name, Fort Bragg is now Fort Liberty.
The North Carolina Army post’s new name honors the heroism, sacrifices and values of the service members, civilians and families who live and serve at the installation, which is home of the Airborne and Special Operations Forces.
According to the post’s website, the name “unites all of what the community stands for through a common connection.” Far from being chosen at random, the word “liberty” conveys “the aspiration of all who serve and has special significance to our units and the community.”
“The installation is the same power projection platform supporting the warfighter,” the site reads. “The fort’s fidelity to its mission has not wavered. With every action taken throughout each day and throughout the world, the base’s service members and surrounding communities support exceptional fighting units with long, proud, and prominent histories of service.”
Preparing the Fort Liberty Exchange for the name change affected nearly every directorate, including IT, MD, FA, Corporate Communication and more.
“The Exchange is honored to serve those who serve every day here at Fort Liberty,” said General Manager Thomas Kuttamperoor. “This installation’s new name reflects the incredible dedication of these Warfighters, civilians and family members in preserving the freedom that Americans hold so dear.”
