The Exchange’s special emphasis program Building Resources in Diversity Growth of Employees (BRIDGE), has released its “From the Mouth of Babes” video in celebration of Juneteenth (June 19.)

Although the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect in 1863, ending slavery in the United States, it took two years for Texans to learn that slavery had been abolished. The Juneteenth holiday marked the official end of slavery in 1865. Juneteenth has been a Texas state holiday since 1980. President Biden signed legislation in 2021, making it a federal holiday.

BRIDGE’s video, edited by Producer Frank Rincon of the Exchange’s Digital Media Networks team, features clips of the young relatives of Exchange associates explaining what the holiday means to them. The video is narrated by Chief Master Sgt. Kevin Osby, the Exchange’s senior enlisted advisor. Watch it below.

I really enjoyed the presentation, especially using the young people to explain what Juneteenth means.
