One in a series honoring the Exchange’s 127 years of family serving family.

Who she is: Sandy Morse, logistics assistant, Fort Irwin

Years with the Exchange: 14 years

Military connections: Morse served for 20 years in the Army. “Two of my brothers were in the military and I always wanted to follow them, so I did.”

Exchange connections: Two of Morse’s daughters work at the Fort Irwin Exchange, as well: Danielle at Subway and Shannon at Popeyes. Her husband and other daughter work on-post with different organizations.

Where she’s worked: Morse has spent her entire Exchange career at Fort Irwin. “Stability for the Exchange is really important to me. I’ve gone through eight GMs and helped train 11 GM assistants.”

What she did at first: Morse spent her first year with the Exchange as the foreman at Anthony’s Pizza before moving to logistics, where she’s worked since.

What she does now: As a logistics assistant, she focuses on financial accountability. Her customers are her managers and teammates, whom she assists with finance and accounting issues. “Shout-out to FA. I work with them a lot. They’re great, and I would not be where I am without them.”

Memorable moments: “There are some great memorable times like the annual Trunk or Treat days during Halloween. We have had a health and safety day where we had the rescue animals at the PX, and the kids really enjoyed that. We’ve had Red Bull motorcycle riders out here during a Town Center block party. I have participated in ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ in conjunction with the BOSS program. And we recently had actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Dar Salim show a preview of their movie ‘The Covenant.’ A great time was had by all.”

Favorite part of working for the Exchange: “I think it’s an honor to work for the Exchange. I enjoy knowing our money goes to support Quality-of-Life programs for the military. That’s really important to me that we give back to the community—I like that.”

Family serving family: “The family is not just at your own Exchange. I work with others around other installations, one in particular, a logistics assistant at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Norma Pfeiffer. I talk with her occasionally after meeting her once years ago. You never know where helpful information will come from, all you have to do is ask, to make life just a little easier.”
