Eastern Region proudly recognizes Melinda Whitman, Kim Atkinson and Vanessa Diaz for their contributions and support of the Exchange Mission. The focus on customer service is a priority, and it shows in the results! Thanks for all you do!

Melinda Whitman
Custodial Worker
Fort Belvoir

Melinda served in the U.S. Women’s Army Corps (WACs) for 21 years. Her military career brought her to Washington, D.C., where she eventually retired in 1991 and settled down. Melinda joined the Fort Belvoir team at in 2009 as a laborer, and eventually became a custodial worker. When asked about how she feels about the Exchange, Melinda’s response was simple.  “This place is very friendly, and the people treat me very well. Even for something as small as a spill or I’m cleaning the restroom, everyone thanks me. Not to mention, I meet people from all walks of life who have been places I’ve been, and that connection is incredible.”  She plays the trumpet in a local band honoring different military events, including our annual Oktoberfest and Gunston Hall’s Citizenship Ceremony. Thank you, Melinda for your service to our store, community, and our country!

Kim is a standout associate with a commitment to excellence. She is focused on developing her team to ensure that all Burger King standards are met in all aspects of the operation. Her unwavering dedication to driving the business forward has yielded a significant $56,954 year-to-date reduction in losses. She has turned our facility from historical loss to increased sales 40.6% year to date over last year for a total increase of $70,026. Kim’s positive impact on the Burger King’s performance makes her a true asset to Dover and the Exchange.

Vanessa Diaz
Customer Experience Associate
Fort Meade

Vanessa is a one-of-a-kind employee who loves her job, and it shows! Her five years at the Fort Meade Gate 32 Express have led to great interactions with customers. She is kind and respectful to our customers, greets them by name and/or rank, and will gladly drop what she’s doing to help them. Vanessa excels in her duties as cashier, is always eager to help in any way possible and is quick to help new employees when they need it. She is constantly ensuring that our Snack Avenue and Heat & Eat sections are stocked and clean throughout her shifts. Vanessa’s diligence has led to an increase of 4.4% above our average month to date and 43% above last year to date in our Heat & Eat sales. Thank you, Vanessa, for all you do!
