Maj. Rodolfo Campano Taking Exchange Experience Back to the Air Force
One in a series highlighting service members assigned to the Exchange
Who he is: Maj. Rodolfo Campano Jr., Chief, Operational Plans, Logistics Directorate
Years of experience: 14 years of service in the Air Force. Campano has been with the Exchange for three years and will be taking what he’s learned back to the Air Force later this year.
Why he joined the Air Force: As the son of a Navy machinist mate who retired as chief petty officer after 23 years, Campano joined the Air Force to continue his father’s legacy of service.
What he does in the Air Force: Campano is a logistics readiness officer in the Air Force and has been stationed at Dover AFB; Osan AB in Korea; Joint Base Charleston; and Aviano Air Base in Italy. He is assigned to the Exchange’s Dallas headquarters.
Being part of the Exchange family: Campano appreciates the team-oriented mindset at the Exchange.
“One of the best parts of the Exchange family is seeing associates across the enterprise come together as a team focused on providing short-notice support to areas affected by natural disasters or the myriad of contingency events we are challenged with,” Campano said. “Within the first six months of my time here, I had the opportunity to go TDY to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, and help our Southwest Asia LG team coordinate movement of merchandise throughout the region. It was definitely learning through a firehose but 100% worth it.”
We Go Where You Go: Campano’s favorite part of his time at the Exchange has been seeing the reality of the motto “We Go Where You Go.”
“The most memorable part to me has been learning how the Exchange operates to provide for our military personnel and their families around the world, let alone accomplishing this alongside veterans who have served and continue to serve in their current capacities,” Campano said. “Especially seeing the process from the Merchandising and Logistics perspective: buying products service members and family wants or needs and delivering them onto the shelves at the Exchange stores.”
Family serving family: “Whether you’re a service member, Veteran, have family who served or work for the Exchange, we are all family,” Campano said. “There’s almost nothing more rewarding than directly supporting the needs of family, especially providing a taste of home for those living overseas, or through Quality-of-Life programs the Exchange dividend supports.”
Looking back: Although he will move on from his assignment with the Exchange this summer, Campano has enjoyed seeing the worlds of the military and the Exchange blended into one over the time he’s spent with the Exchange.
“As I’m preparing to transition back to the Big Blue Air Force and look back at this assignment, the last three years have definitely been a unique and rewarding experience,” Campano said. “I’m proud to have been a valuable asset to the team and serve as an ambassador of sorts, sharing perspective and experience with both the Exchange and Soldiers, Airmen and Guardians.”
