Army Leaders Visit Korea Southern Exchange to Express Support for Quality-of-Life Efforts
Army leaders visited the Camp Walker (Korea Southern) Exchange for an update on Quality-of-Life improvements during an official visit last month.
Sgt. Maj. of the Army Michael Weimer, Exchange board member and the Army’s most senior enlisted Soldier; Command Sgt. Maj. Asgar Kamaludeen, U.S. Army Garrison Daegu; and Command Sgt. Maj. Robin Bolmer, Eighth Army, were welcomed by Exchange General Manager Boris Nasci and the Camp Walker store team.
The Army leaders were briefed on the Camp Walker Exchange’s $7.4 million renovation project. Project plans include exterior and interior updates, such as new fixtures and adding 2,153 square-feet to the building; new restaurant equipment; an expanded food court; self-checkout lanes; and a new Pizza Hut.
“SMA Weimer expressed his appreciation of the Exchange’s commitment to continually improving the Quality of Life in our community,” Nasci said. “We are excited about delivering a more modern shopping experience to the Camp Walker community. The Army’s support of this project has been vital.”
The majority of the project is funded by the Exchange. The Army contributed roughly $2 million. The store’s last renovation was in 1999.
“The Camp Walker Exchange supports Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and their families,” Nasci said. “This project is particularly important as the closest Exchanges are all the way to the south by Busan and on the east coast at Pohang.”
The Camp Walker renovation is slated for completion by the end of this year.
