New Unattended Retail Unit Offers 24/7 Convenience at JBA Security Forces Building
JOINT BASE ANDREWS – Service members on the go at the Security Forces building can fuel up on better-for-you meals at the new 24/7 unattended retail unit.
Col. Todd Randolph, 316th Wing commander, and Lt. Col. Tyler Hughes, 316th Security Forces Squadron commander, joined JBA Exchange General Manager Natalia Meyer and Service Business Manager Kristopher Cubacub in a ribbon-cutting April 25.
The self-serve retail market offers better-for-you options, such as salads, sandwiches, protein bars and fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as hot and cold beverages.
“First responders at the Security Forces building are often working long, fast-paced shifts,” said Meyer. “The unattended retail unit provides fast and convenient access to quality food for Joint Base Andrews’ Defenders, especially for those working the night shift, who previously had no food options available.”
Security Forces Airmen, commonly referred to as Defenders, conduct security and police activities to ensure community safety.
“The Exchange’s unattended retail unit meets the needs of our Defenders 24/7,” said Lt. Col. Tyler Hughes, 316th Security Forces squadron commander. “This is another example of their commitment to going where our service members go, even on a local level.”
The retail unit also offers versatility, allowing the Exchange to customize inventory based on the needs of the community. The Security Forces unattended retail unit is first of four scheduled to open on Joint Base Andrews this year.
The project was funded entirely by the Exchange. Every dollar of Exchange earnings is reinvested back into military communities through contributions to on-installation Quality-of-Life programs, as well as capital improvements—such as the new retail unit—as part of the Exchange’s commitment to making life better for service members and their families.
