Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Exchange Celebrates $12 Million Upgrade
The Army & Air Force Exchange Service celebrated the completion of a $12 million upgrade of the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Exchange on May 3.
The project included a renovation of all store departments on the nearly 200,000-square-feet main sales floor, bringing all signage, branding, wall murals and the store layout up to the latest Exchange standards. New traditional checkout and self-checkout lanes were installed along with a new customer service desk.
The Exchange added an appliance center showroom for The Home Depot, providing shoppers a chance to view major appliances such as washers, dryers, ovens, refrigerators, microwaves that can be ordered tax-free at ShopMyExchange.com.
In the food court, Subway and Popeyes received face-lifts. Mall and concessionaire partners including GNC, Optical and Optometry, US Patriot, Hair and Nail Salon and the Barber Shop also received the newest signage and branding.
The project began in March 2023 and marked the first renovation for the Davis-Monthan Exchange since 2005. The BX serves more than 56,000 eligible shoppers from the Davis-Monthan community, including Airmen and their families, retirees, honorably discharged Veterans with a service-connected disability and Department of Defense civilians. Authorized base visitors can dine at Exchange restaurants.
The ribbon-cutting was attended by Col. Scott Mills, 355th Wing commander; Col. Casey Bartholomew, 355th Mission Support Group commander; Ronny Rexrode, Exchange Western Region senior vice president; and Robert Rice, Exchange West Coast Region vice president.
“We are so thrilled to see this massive project come to fruition,” said General Manager Hafeeza McCullough. “Everything from the main store upgrades to the mall facilities and food court renovations will go a long way to enhance the shopping experience and Quality-of-Life for Airmen, families and everyone else on base.”
The Davis-Monthan community enjoyed multiple special deals, promotions and giveaways at the grand re-opening, including discounts and free samplings from Exchange concessionaires and food court restaurants. Shoppers could also enter prize drawings throughout the day, winning TVs, GoPros, bicycles, Exchange gift cards and more.
“AAFES has been a part of my life for my entire life,” Col. Mills said. “I’ve seen it as a place of refuge, a place of fun, a place to hang out while parents do what parents do.
“To all our Exchange teammates: Thank you for the support for the families, Airmen and children across Davis-Monthan and the local community. Thank you for always being there and always being that beacon that I always knew existed no matter where I went.”
The $12 million investment was funded almost entirely by Exchange earnings along with $95,000 contributed by the Air Force. 100% of Exchange earnings support the military community. In the last 10 years, the Exchange benefit has provided $3.5 billion in earnings for critical military Quality-of-Life programs.
Looks so colorful and very inviting. Congratulations to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Exchange!
