Exchange HEROES Group to Host National Poppy Day Remembrance Event at HQ May 23
The Exchange’s HEROES special emphasis program will host a remembrance event at HQ on May 23 in honor of National Poppy Day (May 24).
Associates can meet the Executive Champions and other members of the HEROES/Unsung Heroes group, who will distribute free red poppies at HQ’s South Entrance from 6:30 to 8 a.m.
Poppy Day is celebrated in countries around the world, with the last Friday before Memorial Day marking the event in the United States. Inspired by Canadian Lt. Col. John McRae’s war poem “In Flanders Fields,” poppies were first used near the end of World War I to commemorate British and U.S. military casualties of the war.
Printouts of “In Flanders Fields” will also be available at the Exchange’s remembrance event.
2024 marks the Exchange’s fifth year celebrating National Poppy Day to recognize associates who have served and honor all who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their Nation.
