Yokota Exchange Team Celebrates AANHPI Heritage Month with Installation Partners
The Exchange immersed the Yokota Air Base community in folk music, history displays and cultural facts to celebrate the start of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month this month.
In its fourth year, the kickoff event celebrates the tradition and history of the AANHPI community. Yokota Exchange Food Court Manager Corey Bennett coordinated with military leadership and community groups to host the event in the food court.
The event included remarks from the 374th Airlift Wing Command Chief Master Sgt. Jerry Dunn; cultural displays honoring AANHPI military Veterans; a Hawaiian folk music performance; and a cake-cutting to celebrate the heritage month.
“The Exchange has made significant progress in collaborating with various heritage groups on Yokota,” General Manager Andrew Defelice said. “We were honored to invite our local command group to share a few words, underscoring the importance of celebrating and recognizing the special heritage month.”
Throughout AAPNHPI Heritage Month, the Yokota Exchange team has attended AAHPI Lunch and Learn Panel to learn more about AAPNHI Heritage and championing diversity and understanding the importance of AAPNHI from Senior Leadership Point of View. Additionally, the Exchange represented the organization with the participation of Cultural engagements and events like 5K Bataan Memorial Day Run.
