In Memoria – Senator Jim Inhofe
Team Exchange,
Earlier this week, we lost a staunch advocate of the hard-earned benefits we are honored to provide service members and their families, Oklahoma’s longest-serving U.S. senator, Jim Inhofe, who passed away at age 89.
Prior to his distinguished career as a public servant, Senator Inhofe was a Soldier. As a result of his time in the Army, he had a deep and abiding appreciation for the important work each of you do to support our Nation’s military.
As noted by The Associated Press, Senator Inhofe “was a steadfast supporter of the military and his state’s five military installations.” Based on his support of the Exchange, it was clear his passion for strong Quality-of-Life support extended far beyond his home state of Oklahoma.
Specifically, Senator Inhofe was instrumental in securing DoD approval for the historic expansion of Exchange benefits that occurred on Veterans Day 2017. As chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, he personally intervened at the final hour to gain the needed authorization for all honorably discharged Veterans to receive a lifelong online Exchange shopping benefit. A Soldier For Life, he fully understood that honoring the service of Veterans bolsters recruiting, readiness and retention.
Senator Inhofe’s work to significantly improve military Quality of Life reminds me of the Soldiers I served with as company commander of Charlie Company, 1st of the 22nd Infantry Regiment. Senator Inhofe epitomized my old regiment’s motto of “deeds not words.” He was all in for those who serve and have served. We are truly privileged to carry his legacy forward through the Veterans online shopping benefit.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Senator Inhofe’s family and friends as we remember his selfless service to our Nation.
It is an honor to serve those who serve with you!
Very best,
Tom
