Seymour Johnson AFB Main Exchange Shows Off First Major Upgrade Since 2011

Exchange and installation leaders cut the ribbon on the upgraded Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Exchange.

Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Airmen, families, retirees and community members can enjoy an upgraded shopping experience at the main Exchange, which recently underwent $4 million in improvements.

4th Fighter Wing Commander Col. Morgan Lohse, 4th Mission Support Group Commander Lt. Col. James Melvin and 4th Mission Support Group Senior Enlisted Leader Chief Master Sgt. Edward Mueller joined Seymour Johnson AFB Exchange General Manager Thomas “TK” Kuttamperoor in cutting the ribbon on the renovated store July 11.

The Exchange now features an appliance center showroom for The Home Depot, providing shoppers a chance to view major appliances such as washers, dryers, ovens, refrigerators, microwaves and more that can be ordered tax-free at ShopMyExchange.com.

The renovated BX also has an in-store BE FIT 360 concept shop, which has the look and feel of a major sporting goods store and features a larger assortment of top fitness brands such as Nike, Under Armour and Adidas.

Additionally, shoppers will notice a new layout, new flooring, self-checkout options, energy-efficient lighting and renovated restrooms, as well as an expanded selection of apparel from national brands like Old Navy, Lucky and Free People; plus-size clothing; cosmetic brands; sporting goods; and more. Community-focused murals spotlight 4th Fighter Wing history throughout the Exchange shopping center.

“The renovations and improved assortment are much more in-line with what our shoppers want and need,” Kuttamperoor said. “There is so much value added here, including brand-name appliances, more electronic offerings in our PowerZone and a BE FIT 360 section that’s crucial to our Airmen. For a smaller community like Seymour Johnson, it’s important to make sure they have the latest and greatest. It’s a more appropriate space to fit our community’s needs and a better atmosphere.”

The project, completed in 15 months, is the first major renovation to the store since 2011. The project was funded almost entirely by the Exchange, along with $50,000 contributed by the Air Force to update the Military Clothing section.
