Exchange Seeks to Enlist Heroes on National Hire a Veteran Day
The Exchange is where heroes work—and more will get the chance to find their perfect careers at Department of Defense’s largest retailer during National Hire a Veteran Day.
More than 70 PXs, BXs and distribution centers worldwide are hosting events including on-the-spot interviews July 25, which coincides with the Exchange’s 129th anniversary. National Hire a Veteran Day recognizes the valuable skills and experiences Veterans bring to the workforce.
“National Hire a Veteran Day is a powerful reminder of our duty to support Veterans as they transition to civilian careers,” said Wesley Abington, vice president, HR Operations. “It’s particularly meaningful that it aligns with our anniversary, showcasing our ongoing dedication to honoring our Nation’s heroes. Few organizations today can say they have been around for 129 years, providing careers to Veterans and their families.”
That same day, the Exchange is also participating in the Department of Defense’s Civilian Virtual Career Fair, a unique platform for Veterans to explore a wide range of civilian career paths, from management roles to specialized positions, all designed to leverage their unique skill sets.
“By participating in the Department of Defense Virtual Career Fair, the Exchange is expanding its presence in hopes of reaching more Veterans,” Abington said. “Although this is the Exchange’s first year participating, the event aligns with our mission of recruiting Veterans and members from the military community.”
The Exchange has a long history of being a preferred employer of Veterans and regularly receives national accolades for its hiring efforts. The Exchange has been named a Military Times Best for Vets employer 10 consecutive times and one of U.S. Veterans Magazine’s Best of the Best Top Government and Law Enforcement Agencies for 11 years running.
“Employing Veterans is critical to the Exchange’s mission to serve those who serve,” Abington said. “Having walked in the boots of military shoppers, Veterans know firsthand how to meet their unique needs, giving credence to the Exchange’s core value of family serving family.”
