Share Your Stories of Women Who Empower for Women’s Equality Day
Calling all associates: Have an example of an empowering moment with a woman at work? Special emphasis program POWER (Promote Opportunities for Women by Effecting Results) is seeking the stories of the times you’ve been personally or professionally empowered by a woman at work in celebration of Women’s Equality Day on Aug. 26.
Associates can submit an entry — limited to 300 words or fewer — to program managers Jeannie Hall at HallJea@aafes.com or Sedric Thomas at ThomasSe@aafes.com no later than Aug. 19. Associates may include a photo of their person who made them feel empowered, but it is optional.
Submissions will be shared on the Exchange Associate’s social media channels — Facebook, Instagram, and X — starting Aug. 26, the day of Women’s Equality Day.
Women’s Equality Day was introduced as a resolution in 1971 by U.S. Rep. Bella Abzug of New York to commemorate the day in 1920 when Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby signed the proclamation giving women the right to vote. The resolution was introduced as Proclamation 4147 by President Richard Nixon in 1972, designating Aug. 26 as Women’s Equality Day.
