Scheduling Your Career Interview is a Click Away!
The Human Resources directorate is committed to empowering associates and encouraging them to take an active role in their careers. One way to support this is by streamlining and promoting a critical tool for our management workforce: career interviews. These conversations facilitate career growth, skill alignment and strategic workforce planning. Talent managers are key partners in helping prepare associates to be competitive when opportunities present themselves.
Now with the integration of new technology, scheduling a career interview is more efficient and accessible.
The new career interview icon located on the HR Talent portal page makes scheduling career interviews a piece of cake. All it takes is navigating to the Human Resources portal page and clicking a link.
“The primary objective of the new career interview calendar is to make scheduling and conducting career interviews easier for managers and associates,” said HR Talent’s chief of career assignments Rhonda Moncrief. “Managers can now simply go to a dedicated website and book an interview at a convenient time for both parties.”
This streamlined process saves time and ensures that career development becomes a continuous and integrated part of the associates experience.
During career interviews, several key topics are addressed to help associates understand and navigate their career paths. One of the primary areas of focus is the “Am I Competitive” system, where talent managers review the associate’s executive profile. This involves discussing the associate’s current standing, desired career moves and the qualifications needed for different roles.
Talent managers also provide valuable advice on growing with the Exchange. This includes highlighting relevant courses such as “Maximize Your Career Potential” and “Interviewing Skills” to enhance associates’ competitiveness. Talent managers also review performance ratings, degrees and other qualifications that impact career advancement.
Career interviews help associates set realistic career goals. This involves a detailed discussion of their current qualifications, performance reviews and readiness ratings. For instance, an associate aiming for a high-ranking position without the necessary years of experience will be advised on how to gain the required experience through intermediate roles.
Mobility is another crucial topic. Talent managers discuss the implications of mobility on career progression, emphasizing the willingness to relocate can open more opportunities for advancement. However, they also provide guidance for those who prefer to remain in their current location, helping them identify local opportunities that align with their career goals.
“Career interviews are essential for understanding career aspirations and aligning them with organizational goals,” Moncrief said.
This honest dialogue ensures that associates have a clear understanding of their current position and what is needed to achieve their career aspirations. It helps in setting achievable goals and provides a roadmap for professional development.
To maximize the benefits of conducting career interviews, associates are encouraged to be proactive. Review job postings regularly at ApplyMyExchange.com or once there, set up a search agent with notifications so you’ll know when desired jobs are posted. Maintain an updated resume and be aware of job qualifications. Staying prepared and informed will help associates make the most of their career interviews and take significant steps toward achieving their professional goals.
Outstanding. Thank you.
