Joint Base Lewis-McChord Unveils $3.2 Million Upgrade to Pendleton Express
The Joint Base Lewis-McChord Exchange hosted a grand re-opening for the upgraded Pendleton Express, welcoming two new quick-serve restaurants, an expanded salesfloor and multiple shopping improvements.
The upgrade includes JBLM’s first Hot Stuff Kitchen restaurant and second Hunt Brothers Pizza, along with an expanded Snack Avenue and new walk-in cooler/freezer section. The upgraded Express features nearly 7,300 square feet of interior shopping space, more than 2,000 more than the previous store. New flooring, lighting, fixtures, signage and interior design elements were also installed, bringing the store in line with the Exchange’s most up-to-date facilities.
The grand re-opening celebration included prize drawings, vendor demos, giveaways and free samples from the store and new dining options.
A ribbon cutting was attended by Steven Hood, JBLM Garrison chief of staff; Ronny Rexrode, Exchange Western Region senior vice president; Carrie Cammel, Exchange Western Region vice president; Matthew Beatty, JBLM Exchange general manager; Penny Palmer, JBLM retail business manager; and Lucie Opher, Pendleton Express store manager.
The $3.2-million project took place over nine months, bringing a modern shopping experience and the latest dining and shopping options to more than 345,000 Exchange shoppers in the Seattle-Tacoma area.
“We are honored to say, ‘mission complete’ on this expansion and renovation,” Beatty said to attendees at the grand re-opening. “We owe thanks to the JBLM Garrison and Public Works teams, our Exchange teammates here and at HQ and the JBLM community that shops here every day.
“We are privileged to serve this community, and these improvements show the Exchange’s continued commitment to serving those who serve.”
