Exchange Honors its Drivers for National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

In celebration of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, the Exchange is saluting its drivers who help fulfill the 129-year-old retailer’s “We Go Where You Go” mission.

“Exchange drivers are essential to delivering tastes of home to our Nation’s heroes,” said Jason Spencer, the Exchange’s director of transportation operations. “We are thrilled to join PXs and BXs around the world in extending gratitude to all of them during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.”

Associates are encouraged to show their appreciation to their drivers during the weeklong celebration from Sept. 15-21.

For store teams, associates can offer personal thank-yous during deliveries along with signed cards or signs for the stockroom. Stores can show their creative sides with banners, gift cards, treats or other kind gestures. General managers and store managers are encouraged to thank drivers in person if schedules allow.

With nearly 200 professional drivers, the Exchange is the 15th-largest private retail fleet in the country. Nearly 30 of those have traveled more than 1 million miles ensuring that vital goods and services make it to services members and their families.

Four drivers—Scott Moore (Dan Daniel Distribution Center), William Cave (Dan Daniel), Eric Hoff (Dan Daniel) and Richard MacIntosh (Waco Distribution Center)—have clocked 2 million miles while Bradley Wacks (Dayton) has logged more than 3 million miles for the Exchange.

The Exchange also has four drivers, including Wacks, who have been inducted into the National Private Truck Council Hall of Fame. Since 1987, the NPTC has honored 152 drivers who qualify by driving for 3 million miles, 20 years or 50,000 hours without a preventable accident. Only three companies have more drivers in the Hall of Fame than the Exchange.

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week was founded by the American Trucking Association in 1998 to pay respect to and thank professional drivers for their hard work and commitment in one of our economy’s most demanding and important jobs. There are more than 3.5 million professional drivers on U.S. roads today.
