With Halloween coming up next Thursday, Flashback Friday takes a look back at some Halloween pictures in the Exchange Post archives, where Halloween photos start in 1974.

1974: In a monster mash-up of holiday seasons, Toyland shoppers at Fort Sam Houston received an extra treat during the last week of October — a Halloween spook house. After a tour through the spook house, customers bobbed for apples before being escorted to Toyland by the ghoul of their choice.

1979: All sorts of characters greeted Hawaii Area customers at the Fort Shafter Exchange.

1985: Alamo Region headquarters associates dress up for the facilities first Halloween costume contest. The associate at right gets our vote, because sometimes computers can be really scary.

1990: A Fort Lewis sales associate presents a treat to Brig. Gen. John Hutton Jr. during Halloween festivities at Lewis’ Madigan Army Medical Center retail branch. Hutton, who was a heart specialist, was one of President Reagan’s White House physicians.

1992: To promote the sale of the video, “Beauty and the Beast,” associates at the Little Rock AFB main store dressed in costumes. Stereo department sales associates Arlette Morris and Ray Ferreira, as Beauty and the Beast, greeted customers at the main entrance and then walked around the store visiting with the children and custodial worker Willie Hughes (shown with the duo above). Then they went to the base theater to visit with the children before a special showing of the movie.

2010: Manager Jim Knight, as the Mummy, passes out candy and samples of a new energy drink to Marines at Camp Ramadi, Iraq.

2015: Headquarters associates get a lift during a Halloween celebration.

2020: Associates at the Fort Irwin Exchange designed a haunted ship and other displays that pleased shoppers.
