The Exchange has a new senior enlisted advisor in the Pacific Region with the arrival of Army Sgt. Maj. Thomas Terry.

Terry is assigned to region headquarters in Okinawa, serving as a key liaison between Exchange leaders, installation commands and the military communities. He is focusing on enhancing the Quality of Life for service members and families, visiting Exchanges across the region, engaging with command groups and gathering feedback to strengthen the Exchange benefit.

Terry began his Army career in 2006 as a parachute rigger after three years in the Army Reserve. He completed multiple leadership and instructor trainings, including Advanced, Senior and Master Leaders Courses, Airborne School and Jumpmaster School along with Military Free Fall Instructor and SERE Level-C training.

Before beginning his role with the Exchange, Terry spent 13 years at the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) then a year at the Army Sergeants Major Academy.

In his new position, Terry is embracing the Exchange’s far-reaching operations across the Pacific Region.

“This is nothing like I’ve ever done in my career,” he said. “It’s amazing to learn how much the Exchange really does and all the different things we have our hands in, especially for families who are adjusting to life in a completely foreign country.

“Learning more about the dividends provided to Quality-of-Life programs, the school meal program—it’s pretty special to be able to provide some of that American life for service members and families overseas.”

Bringing that knowledge of the Exchange’s importance to commands throughout the region is a priority for Terry.

“Educating commands on everything the Exchange brings to the table and the amount of people who are involved is key—letting them know that we’re not a corporate business on their installation, but we’re all one team.”
