Legacy MILITARY STAR Card Decommissioning: An FAQ for Associates

ExPost-MilitaryStarCards

All legacy MILITARY STAR cards will be decommissioned May 1 and replaced with updated MILITARY STAR cards. The legacy MILITARY STAR card is unable to support necessary technological features and benefits such as enhanced security and contactless payments. But what does decommissioning mean for cardholders?

Below is a Q&A that explains the changes.

Q1: When should cardholders stop using the legacy card?

A1. Associates should remind shoppers that the legacy card will be decommissioned May 1, and will no longer be accepted as a payment method for in-store and online purchases.

Q2: Should associates stop asking customers if they would like to apply for a MILITARY STAR card?

A2. No. Associates should continue to drive MILITARY STAR card use and increase new accounts among shoppers.

Q3: Should associates take decommissioned cards from cardholders?

A3. No. Associates should encourage cardmembers to activate their new card by calling 1-888-983-STAR (7827), then destroy their legacy card that is no longer valid.

Q4: What will happen to the current balance of cardholders?

A4. All balances will transfer to the new card and account number.

Q5: What should associates tell cardholders who have not received the new card?

A5. All active cardmembers have been sent their new card, but if they did not receive or cannot find it, associates should instruct cardholders to reach out to the MILITARY STAR Contact Center to request a replacement.
