COVID-19 Heroes: Fort Jackson Commanding General Honors Exchange Team
When COVID-19 forced recruits at Fort Jackson to remain on base for an extra seven weeks after they completed their training, they had nowhere to go and little to do.
The recruits, rather than go on to their next duty stations, were ordered to stay put after the Army issued a no-movement order in the fight against COVID-19.
The Exchange stepped in, showing the recruits first-run movies and enhancing their dining choices. Fort Jackson command responded with a salute Wednesday, presenting two Exchange associates with challenge coins.
Fort Jackson Brig. Gen. Milford Beagle, commanding general, U.S. Army Training Center, presented challenge coins to Exchange food court Manager Korey Martinez, who tracked down “The Invisible Man,” “The Hunt,” “Bad Boys for Life” and other movies, and Services Assistant Shania Gregerson, who coordinated mobile food selections with vendors.
“I was honored that the commander recognized them for their solid efforts,” said Fort Jackson Exchange General Manager Thomas Kuttamperoor. “Having those trainees stay over for so long was a tall task, and the Exchange was up for it. Our Exchange associates do what they have to do to serve our community.”
