One in a series honoring the Exchange’s 125 years of family serving family

With an Air Force Veteran father and a brother in the Army, Camp Foster Sales Area Manager Coley Soderlund knew he wanted to be involved with the military community. While deciding between enlisting and pursuing a career in law enforcement, Soderlund found a different way to show his support for the best customers in the world.

“I wanted to give back to the community in any way that I could and saw the Exchange’s mission as a means to give back,” Soderlund said.

Coley Soderlund’s first role for the Exchange was as a men’s department sales associate. Now, more than 10 years later, Soderlund works as a sales area manager in Okinawa, Japan.

His first role was as a men’s department sales associate. Now, more than 10 years later, Soderlund works as a sales area manager in Okinawa, Japan, and is responsible for the Camp Foster Main Store’s PowerZone, stationery and home décor departments.

At the Exchange, Soderlund has witnessed how extraordinary customer service can brighten the day of service members, many of whom have left home for the first time and may be struggling to adjust.

“[It] has enriched my impression of the Exchange throughout the years of employment,” Soderlund said.

Soderlund has also welcomed a child in his time with the Exchange, and his family is expecting another baby soon. He’s grateful the Exchange ensures he’s allowed time off to spend with his children and care for his wife after giving birth. Soderlund has experienced the Exchange core value of family serving family firsthand, and is appreciative of how the Exchange supports his family.
